Spring (March to May)
Spring is one of the most popular times for the Annapurna Base Camp Trek. The weather is generally stable, temperatures are pleasant, and the forests come alive with blooming rhododendrons, Nepal's national flower.
The trails are colorful, rivers flow strongly from melting snow, and panoramic mountain views are often spectacular.
Why Trek in Spring?
Comfortable daytime temperatures.
Blooming rhododendron forests.
Clear Himalayan views.
Longer daylight hours.
Ideal photography conditions.
Things to Consider
As one of the busiest trekking seasons, tea houses can fill up quickly, so booking in advance is recommended.
Summer / Monsoon (June to August)
Best for Quiet Trails and Lush Landscapes
Summer brings the monsoon to much of Nepal. Frequent rainfall makes the forests exceptionally green, while waterfalls become more dramatic.
However, clouds often obscure mountain views, and some sections of the trail may become muddy or slippery.
Advantages
Fewer trekkers.
Vibrant green landscapes.
Peaceful tea houses.
Excellent opportunities for nature photography.
Challenges
Regular rainfall.
Leeches in lower forest areas.
Limited mountain visibility.
Slippery trails.
For experienced trekkers who don't mind occasional rain, this season offers a quieter experience.
Autumn (September to November)
The Best Overall Season
Autumn is widely regarded as the finest time to trek to Annapurna Base Camp. After the monsoon clears, the air becomes crisp, the skies are exceptionally clear, and the Himalayan views are often at their best.
Comfortable daytime temperatures and dry conditions make trekking enjoyable from start to finish.
Why Trek in Autumn?
Crystal-clear mountain views.
Stable weather.
Dry trails.
Pleasant temperatures.
Major Nepali festivals such as Dashain and Tihar.
Things to Consider
Autumn is the busiest trekking season in Nepal. Early reservations for guides and accommodation are recommended.
Winter (December to February)
A Peaceful Himalayan Experience
Winter offers some of the clearest mountain views of the year, along with quiet trails and a peaceful atmosphere.
While daytime trekking is generally comfortable, mornings and evenings at higher elevations can be very cold, particularly at Annapurna Base Camp.
Advantages
Quiet trails.
Clear skies.
Excellent visibility.
Snow-covered mountain scenery.
Challenges
Cold nights.
Occasional snowfall.
Extra warm clothing required.
Possible weather-related delays after heavy snow.
For well-prepared trekkers, winter provides a rewarding and less crowded experience.
Accommodation & Meals on the Annapurna Base Camp Trek
One of the great advantages of the Annapurna Base Camp Trek is its well-developed tea house network. Throughout the journey, you'll stay in locally owned mountain lodges that provide comfortable accommodation, freshly prepared meals, and warm Himalayan hospitality.
While facilities become more basic as you gain altitude, the welcoming atmosphere, stunning mountain scenery, and authentic cultural experience make every overnight stay memorable.

Finding Zen Between Steps: A Photographer's Paradise
As a landscape photographer, I've chased sunrises around the globe, but none compare to the Annapurna dawn painted on Shepherd Holidays' 15-day canvas. Every bend in the trail was a postcard come to life: cascading waterfalls, sun-dappled forests, and snow-capped giants piercing the endless blue. Poon Hill, a sunrise amphitheater carved by the gods, left me speechless (and with enough clicks to fill a terabyte). But the trek wasn't just about capturing the majestic; it was about the intimate details - the prayer flags dancing in the wind, the crinkled smile of a teahouse owner handing me another cup of chai, the quiet power of a yak caravan traversing the mountain pass. Our guide, Pemba, with his eagle eyes and encyclopedic knowledge of flora and fauna, became my own National Geographic narrator, pointing out hidden wonders I'd otherwise miss. And the porters, with their tireless dedication, ensured my camera equipment reached every breathtaking viewpoint without a scratch. Shepherd Holidays' meticulous planning and genuine care for both trekkers and the environment made this more than just a photography expedition; it was a pilgrimage to the heart of serenity.

Challenging My Body, Celebrating My Spirit: A Grandmother's Mountain Dream
At 67, I wasn't sure my legs could carry me to Annapurna Base Camp, but Shepherd Holidays proved age is just a number. Their gradual acclimatization schedule and comfortable teahouse accommodations allowed me to conquer each day with a sense of adventure, not dread. Sure, the climbs were tough, but the camaraderie of my fellow trekkers, the encouragement of our guide (who patiently answered my endless questions!), and the sheer awe-inspiring vistas made every step worthwhile. Reaching Annapurna Base Camp wasn't just a physical feat; it was a celebration of my spirit. Every ache and pain paled in comparison to the feeling of accomplishment, the sense of connection to the majestic mountains, and the deep well of pride at proving to myself that anything is possible. Shepherd Holidays treated me not like a grandmother defying expectations, but like a fellow adventurer embracing the unknown. Their respect for my pace, their genuine warmth, and their unwavering support made this journey a testament to the human spirit, young or old.

Beyond Breathtaking: A Tapestry of Mountains, Miracles, and Momos
I came for the mountains, and was swept away by everything around them. Shepherd Holidays crafted a 15-day odyssey that felt less like a trek and more like a journey into the soul of Nepal. The trails were both challenging and rewarding, winding through rhododendron forests that smelled like cinnamon dreams and offering glimpses of Annapurna's majesty that still take my breath away. Every night, teahouses welcomed us with steaming mugs of chai and plates of the most incredible dal bhat I've ever tasted. But the true magic was in the people. Our guide, Pasang, wasn't just our map and compass; he was our storyteller, our confidante, and our window into Nepali culture. Witnessing his unwavering spirit and contagious laughter, even on the steepest climbs, was a revelation. The porters, with their quiet strength and genuine smiles, became silent heroes, carrying our burdens as we carried our dreams. Shepherd Holidays' dedication to responsible tourism was also inspiring, ensuring every step we took on this journey honored the beauty and fragility of the Himalayas. Beyond the summit of Annapurna Base Camp, I found myself summiting my own fears and limitations. This trek wasn't just a physical accomplishment; it was a transformative miracle, and I wouldn't have traded it for the world - or even another plate of those incredible momos!
