As Coronavirus or Covid-19 damaging the daily life and taking down the lives of many people worldwide, Nepal the Himalayan country, a south neighbor of China & just about 1,555 miles from Wuhan, a state of China where Coronavirus was first identified, has not yet been affected that much which was predicted in early days due to very less medical facilities and infrastructure available in Nepal and in the same time many tourists from China were traveling to Nepal.

The epicenter of Coronavirus has been dramatically changed from Wuhan to Italy. As latest reports reads, it took more than 58,850 lives down from the world and more than 14,680 people died alone in Italy which is breaking the numbers every hour. Similarly, the death toll rises in Spain to 11,190 as of now where Nepal is reported just 6 confirmed cases with no death and one of them has completely recovered. All 6 cases were transmitted to them during their stay or travel in foreign countries. Other European countries are also badly affected by Covid-19, Coronavirus. Apart from Europe, the spread of Coronavirus in US is reported to 277,490 which resulted to 7,144 deaths whereas 12,280 of them have been completely recovered. Other Asian countries are also badly affected due to this epidemic. 50 deaths and 2,858 confirmed cases are reported in South Asian countries.

All south Asian countries including Nepal have declared lockdown and have constructed or made quarantine to get protected from the increasing epidemic Covid-19. SAARC Covid-19 Emergency Fund has been funded by 8 SAARC nations. Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka are the member countries of SAARC.

Latest Update of Coronavirus (Covid-19) in Nepal

The first case of Covid-19 Coronavirus in Nepal was a Nepali student who had returned from Wuhan, China and has completely recovered. The second case, a 19 years old female who returned from France by Qatar Airways and remaining 4 persons were also returned from abroad. All these 5 victims are normal in isolation ward.

Nepal canceled its biggest international event – Visit Nepal 2020, which was organized to promote Nepal and its major tourism attractions. All academic examinations below 10th standard were conducted before academic calendar and other examinations are cancelled. All land boarders with China and India are sealed off & only international airport, Tribhuvan International Airport is partially closed after suspending all regular flights. Few emergency charted flights are rescuing needy ones and carrying emergency stuffs.

What is Coronavirus and what do we know about it?

Coronavirus or COVID-19 is considered to have become an epidemic worldwide. Coronavirus was first identified in the Wuhan state of China. And there has been a lot of information circulating on media regarding the symptoms and prevention measures of the virus. As we now know it now, the virus has transmitted between animals and humans. Some signs to look out for include respiratory symptoms, fever, cough, shortness of breath and difficulty breathing. And in more severe cases, the infection can cause pneumonia, severe acute respiratory syndrome, kidney failure, and even death.

Few recommendations have been provided to prevent the spread of the virus. They include; regular hand washing, covering mouth and nose when coughing and sneezing, thoroughly cooking meat and eggs, avoid close contact with anyone showing symptoms of respiratory illness such as coughing and sneezing.
