Kala Patthar Trek is a Combo Package of Everest Base Camp and Kalapatthar from different trekking route which is unlike regular trail, less crowded. You can simply avoid the same trail while returning back to Lukla by this package, Kala Patthar Trek. Here are these two itineraries in brief to select the suitable one for you. This is simply a EBC Trek but we take you through alternative less crowed route where we believe you can enjoy the adventure more than usual.

As everyone dreams to reach at Everest Base Camp once in a life, this Kalapatthar Trek lets them to reach Everest Base Camp from different trail through isolated typical Himalayan villages following river bank, monasteries exploring unique Sherpa villages, beautiful scene of mighty mountains, flora and fauna. You can feel living like a local while staying in typical local run lodges/tea houses. The trail goes inside the Sagarmatha National Park; Sagarmatha is a Nepali name of Mount Everest. Where you will have a chance to see Himalayan wild animals and birds like Musk Dear, Himalayan Goat (Thar/Jharal), Danphe (The Himalayan Monal, is national bird of Nepal) and many others. Kalapatthar is a famous view point of the Trek which is located at 5,550 meter height from the sea level and highest than Everest Base Camp (5,360 m). You can watch many Mountains, Peaks, Glaciers including Mt. Everest (8,848m), Lhotse (8,749m), Mt. Makalu (8,463m), Cho Oyu (8,201m) and many others.

You can explore Sherpa culture, tradition and lifestyle very closely. After your arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport, Kathmandu, our airport representative will greet you with khada (typical traditional Tibetian/Nepali scaff using for greetings) and escort you to the hotel. In the afternoon, you can take rest or explore the streets of Thamel nearby your hotel. In the evening, we will organize a short pre-trip meeting and introduce you with your trekking guide, who will brief you about the preparations to be done for the trip.

After breakfast, Your Kathmandu Tour starts from 9:30 am as we pick you up from your hotel for the sightseeing of famous UNESCO world heritage sites inside Kathmandu valley.

Pashupatinath (World heritage site)

The world famous Hindu temple Pashupatinath is regarded as one of the holiest and oldest Hindu temple in the world. This temple is located 5km east from the city center at the bank of holy Bagmati River. Pashupatinath area is widely decorated by various ornaments dedicated to Lord Shiva. As followed by the Hindu Culture, the cremation of the dead is done in Pashupatinath area by the side of the bank of the holy Bagmati River.

Swayambhunath: Monkey temple (World heritage site)

Swayambhunath, also named as the monkey temple because it is surrounded by the monkeys all over the area. Famous for people following both Hinduism and Buddhism, this temple not only provides the cultural and religious aspects but also offers various arts, architecture and the magnificent view of the Kathmandu valley from the western side of its hillock. Swyambhunath Stupa is imprinted by the eye of Lord Buddha, which stands for peace and knowledge.

Boudhanath (World heritage site)

Bouddhanath is the oldest and the largest stupa in the valley, which was built during the Lichchhavi dynasty in the 5th century around 2500 years ago. Its old name is ‘Khasa’ but later it was changed to Bouddhanath by the government. You will find many Buddhist pilgrims and monks from Tibet and various places going round the stupa spinning the prayer wheels.

Patan Durbar Square (World heritage site)

Patan Durbar Square is situated at the center of the Lalitpur city. The main attraction of Patan Durbar Square is the ancient royal Palace, where the Malla Kings of Lalitpur resided. There are many temples and idols in this area. You can also explore the Newari lifestyle, food, and culture in the square and visit museums that contain many ancient items that have a lot of historical significance.

In the meantime, we prepare for the trek, you can buy your your trekking gears in Kathmandu if you are short of any. Overnight at your hotel in Kathmandu.

After breakfast, early in the morning you will be picked up from your hotel to domestic airport and a short fly of 25-30 minutes take you to Tenzing Hilary airport at Lukla. Then, Crossing Rivers by bridges you will reach to Phakding.

Note: As you know the climate of Himalayas, Kathmandu-lukla flight may get delayed for one-two hours or even a day or two sometimes. We apologize for the inconvenience and do the best with available solution. If your flight cancels we go for Sightseeing of Kathmandu which suppose to be done in 14th day of this trip.

After breakfast, we head to Namche Bazaar. The journey reachs to Sagarmatha National Park (Sagarmatha is the Nepali name of Mount Everest) crossing suspension bridges and through pine forest. Watching mountains a glimpse of images you will reach Namche Bazar.

Today is the acclimatization day. It helps to prepare for your body to walk more in further height. Namche Bazar is a Himalayan city so you can get many facilities which you normally get in the town. You shall explore the Namche Bazar and nearby places.

The journey starts walking with great views. You will reach Tengboche seeing wild animals and birds. Visiting monastery will be in the afternoon. In addition, a full moon day of October/November month, Mani Rimdu festival offers Tibetan Opera and masked dance.

Today you will reach to Dingboche from Tengboche. You will see a nice view of a snow tower of Mount Ama Dablam.

Today is the second acclimatization day of the trip. It will assist you to be fit and prepare for next route. Climbing 400 meters to Nangkartshang Gompa you will explore many views of and from the places like Mount Makalu (8,463 m) and Mount Ama Dablam from close range.

Today, you will reach to Lobuche. The trail climbs to a ridge and views of Taboche and Cholatse.

Today is the day of longest walk since you will be reaching at EBC, inner smile comes in your face after topping the Everest Base Camp. Following the wind-blown rocky path you will see other peaks Mount Pumori, Mount Lingtren, Mount Khumbutse, Mount Nuptse from west to east and you will reach to Gorak Shep. Gorak Shep is the last village of this Himalayan region.

Early in the morning, you will climb a 2-3 hours up to the Kala Paththar. It will be a pleasant morning watching sunrise in the lap of the Himalaya alongside other mountains as an eyewitness. Your eyes will be too much busy counting towers of the mountains from Kala Paththar, surrounding by Mount Pumori (7,145m/23,443ft), Mount Lingtren (6,697m/21, 973ft), Mount Khumbutse (6,623m/21,730ft), Mount Changtse (7,550m/24,772ft), Mount Lhotse (8,516m/27,941ft) and Mount Nuptse (7,861m/25,792ft) and Mount Cho Oyo (8,201m/26,907ft) in the west and Mount Ama Dablam to the south and offcourse there are other small named/unnamed peaks. You will be back to Gorak Shep for breakfast and reach to Pheriche.

After your breakfast, we again walk down the elevation to Phortse. We go through a beautiful village, Pangboche. Pangboche is a permanent settlement where people stay whole year. There a Monastery which was built in 16th century, it is one of the oldest monasteries in Everest region. Phortse is our final destination for today, it’s a unique Village in Everest region. You can see again the bunch of mountains standing tall above you. Overnight stay at guest house in Phortse.

After having breakfast, we start another day of trekking through Dudh Koshi River. Unlike yesterday you can see several trekkers today; heading towards Gokyo or coming back from Gokyo Trekking. We mostly walk through the bank of the river and forest ascending for a while and finally steps up until the Mongma La (3,856m). You have amazing view from this view point. After recharge your energy with some hot tea and other snacks, the trail descend to the Khumjung Village. Khumjung is tiny valley but many houses, just beneath the Khumbi Yul Lha known as God of Khumbu. Stay overnight at guest house in Khumjung.

After breakfast, we leave Khumjung and Namche Bazaar and head towards the Thame Valley. The Thame valley is off route for most trekking groups and you are likely to find the paths relatively quiet. Thame is a home of many climbers including Tenzing Norgay Sherpa who was the first Everest submitter with Sir Edmund Hilary on 29 May 1953 and we can stay at tea house of 21st time Everest submitter Appa Sherpa. Later in the afternoon we will visit small Gompa situated at a rocky headland above the village. Overnight stay at Thame.

After breakfast we start our trek descending with Bhote Koshi River then goes gradual down and kind of flat turn south down the valley towards Namche Bazaar via several small villages through rhododendron and juniper forest. And we again walk down to the Dudh Koshi River with forest to the Manjo via Jorsale. Overnight stay at guest house in Monjo.

Today is the last day of 18 days long Kala Patthar Trek. After breakfast in Monjo we walk along the Dudh Koshi River Bank to Lukla via Benkar, Tok Tok, Phakding, Ghat and ascending high above the jungle to the Lukla taking 4 to 5 hours. Overnight at the hotel in Lukla.

After having breakfast early in the morning, you will take your return flight to Kathmandu from Lukla and transfer to your hotel. It’s a rest day but you may visit in local market, depending on your mood and arrival time from Lukla. Tomorrow will be sightseeing day in Kathmandu. Evening we host post trek celebration dinner at typical Nepali restaurant where you can taste the typical Nepali cuisines with cultural show. Overnight at you hotel in Kathmandu.
