Langtang Trek is an adventurous venture near the Tibetan border and a remote valley surrounded by snow-capped mountains. Trek to Langtang provides every trekker to experience the remoteness of the himalayas. One major difference about the Langtang valley, compared to other Everest and Annapurna region is that, it offers exploring varieties of flora and fauna that is very rare and abundant. Diversified by 14 vegetations and 18 ecosystem types, Langtang National Park is Nepal's first Himalayan protected area. Colorful rhododendron, oak, alder and maple are some of the most common trees found in the Langtang Valley. It is also home to several endangered and protected animals such as Red Panda, Himalayan Black Bear, snow/mountain leopards, goral, Tibetan snowcock etc. Trekking through the lush forests diversified by rich flora and fauna, the trail gradually ascends to glacier alpine zone, where the mountain Langtang Lirung (7246m) starts to shine with its majestic view.

Langtang Valley, which is isolated and high in elevation, is home to the Tamang people, a kind-hearted group who are descendants, who came from Tibet years ago. Tibetan Buddhism plays a big role in their way of life and you will see symbols of it (mani walls, prayer flags, chhortens, etc.) throughout the trail. These, along with the smiling faces of villagers, also inherited by the Tamang ethnic groups add much charm to your trekking experience.

Along the trail, numerous tea houses offer hospitality and meals for nourishment. Starting our trek from Syabru Besi off to Kyanjin Gompa, finally, we arrive at the alpine pastures of Kyanjin Gompa, a spiritual center and the place of an amazing mountain views. We get a 360-degree panoramic crisp view of the tallest peaks in the Langtang region.  We get an extra day here to explore the high valley of Langshisa Kharka, Kyamjin Ri or hike to Tserko Ri(4985m),where you'll be able to see more than 21 unique peaks. Retracing our steps, we descend to Syabrubesi and drive back to Kathmandu.

  2. Altitude Acclimatization: Adequate acclimatization is crucial to prevent altitude sickness. It's recommended to spend a couple of days in Kathmandu or nearby areas before starting the trek to allow your body to adjust to the altitude.

  3. Permits and Documentation: Obtain the necessary permits and documentation required for trekking in Langtang National Park. This typically includes a TIMS (Trekkers' Information Management System) card and a Langtang National Park entry permit, which can be obtained in Kathmandu or at the park entrance.

  4. Packing Essentials: Pack appropriate clothing and gear for the trek, including sturdy hiking boots, warm layers, rain gear, a good quality sleeping bag, and personal medications. It's advisable to pack light but carry essential items for varying weather conditions.

Meals are usually provided at the teahouses and include a variety of Nepali and international dishes. It's advisable to carry some snacks and energy bars for additional sustenance.

  9. Responsible Trekking: Practice responsible trekking by respecting local customs and traditions, minimizing waste, and leaving no trace. Support local communities by purchasing goods and services locally and respecting their culture and environment.

  10. Emergency Preparedness: Familiarize yourself with emergency procedures and evacuation routes in case of any unforeseen circumstances. Carry a basic first aid kit and have emergency contact numbers readily available.

    Best experience of my life

Me and my wife had been discussing about our plans for the coming new year. We had heard a lot from our friends about Nepal and their last trip to Annapurna Base Camp. And through them, we were recommended to Shepherd Holidays. We however planned to go for Langtang Trek.Following our 11 day trip, I must say that this was one of the best moments of my life. The view from Kyanjin Gompa must be the best thing I have ever seen in my entire life. Our guide was very kind and friendly at the same time.Thank you Shepherd Holidays for your amazing hospitality and service. You guys surely know how to treat your guests. We will surely be back again for our next trip to Annapurna Base Camp.

Spotted a Red panda along the trail

First thing first, we spotted a Red Panda near the Ghoda Tabela forest along the trail. We must have been very lucky, that we got to see this beautiful endangered species. And not just a glimpse, we were even able to capture certain pictures.
I'd like to thank Shepherd Holidays for providing the most amazing guide in the world. Nishan was not just a very professional guide, but he was one of the most friendliest person. Thanks for taking so much care and managing all the necessary things required through out the trip. You guys are a true professional. Cheers!
